Native Pollinators of Vermont

One Yard. One Year. 22,000 Photos.

This calendar is a curated selection of some of my favorite macro images of Vermont’s wild pollinators—bees, wasps, flies, and the tiny everyday dramas they get up to.

All of these images were taken on our 1/3-acre yard in South Burlington, Vermont, on the deep sandy soils of the Winooski River delta—prime habitat for ground-nesting bees (one exception: the December image, shot on a neighbor’s hibiscus). I fell down the insect-photography rabbit hole a few years ago, and this year alone took about 22,000 photos in the yard.

If you love bees, close-up detail, and the strange beauty of ordinary places, this is for you.
